Varolo Scam

Posted on | June 30, 2011 | No Comments

I’ve see lots of ads flooding Craigslist for a site called Varolo, even a token glance reveals it’s pretty much a multi-level pyramid scheme. The only reason I’m blogging about it, is that many of it’s users are so desperate to move higher up in the  scam (gaining the fleeting change at making a few bucks) that they in turn also post their own ads on sites, which is both sad and really annoying.

However I did find it pretty fun to look at how the company pushes itself online. There was a lot of social stuff, but most of that could be attributed to desperate users since they also tended to drop referral links (the only way you stand a chance of making money). There were plenty of posts on legitimate scam discussion forums. Those were pretty funny to read, threads would often consist of new users – who’d never made a post – talking down to forum veterans with 200+ posts to their name about how they just didn’t understand the site and that it was in no way a scam.

Then there are the obvious fake domains…

…All giving the initial impression that Varolo is a scam only to switch gears and suddenly espouse the greatness of the service.

Overall I’m just hoping a few idiots will read this and stop pushing this garbage all over the place.
